Carl Smith Beach Park
Swim with Turtles!
Directions Maps, and Info
Overview
Carl Smith Beach Park, also known as Four Mile, is one of Hilo’s most picturesque beach parks, featuring crystal-clear turquoise water, natural lava rock pools, and frequent Hawaiian green sea turtle sightings. Unlike many east-side beaches with rough waves, Carl Smith Beach is protected by offshore lava formations, creating calm, lagoon-like swimming areas that are perfect for families and beginner swimmers.
The combination of shallow tide pools, lush greenery, and scenic coastline makes this one of the most peaceful and beautiful swimming spots in Hilo. The beach is mostly rocky, but soft sand areas can be found in the shallow water.
